Okay, not sure if anyone has noticed yet, but this winter it’s not even close to as cold as it was this time in 2011. (as I write this forecast on Jan. 4th)
WHICH IS A GREAT THING!
Heck, December was rather balmy with plenty of 70’s and even 80 degree days. And it can continue to be a really nice winter season.
Which means more days to get out there for some quality N.E. Florida Light Tackle, river and inlet fishing!
Don’t let the weather or lack of fishing in the rest of the country fool ya’.
"
Here in Jax we fish 12 months a year."
The best months are November through May.
Used to be that my favorite fish to pursue during the winter months, the Speckled Sea trout, were closed for harvest during the month of February. But not any more!
Supposedly, through years of Feb. closures and tight limits. The state says we have plenty. So now we can catch and keep "specks" in February, and they even upped the limit from (5) per person to (6) per person, 15-20". And we can also keep (2) Redfish, 18-27", per person rather than just one.
Be sure to sign-up for my daily reports and see exactly what we’re catching. Because it can be Trout one day, and Black Drum the next.
Speaking of Black Drum…The inlet was on fire this time last year when it came to 4-18 pound Drum. Just a Redfish’s cousin, they fight just as hard and the limits are more liberal too.
